I own a 1968 900cc XLCH iron head sportster. Iam 76 years old and still kick start it. It takes a technique. You definitely don't want to flood it, he did, if you do, just walk away for a while, come back, open the throttle fully, kick it a time or two. It may backfire, but that is good. He also got a taste of the recoil that these engines can give you. Mine recoiled on me once so bad that it kicked me over the handlebars. If you go through what this kid did, you don't ever want to shut it down, trust me, I know.
Shouldve known to get his foot straight off the kick starter the moment you hear engine fire, or get kicked harder in return for being asleep on the job
That happened to me and dug in my leg all the way to the bone. Side of the road no one for miles. I thought it might be the end. Well before cellphones. Wear boots guys.
hurts to watch👁 '67XLH had bad kicker gear and i swear when it slipped i lost all feeling from knee down. First year for Electric Start👍🏼got both fixed.
What's the big deal with kickback? I've had sporties, panheads and flathead trikes, never been an issue. He will learn how kickstart bikes eventually. That's a sixty nine or older xlch no electric start 883.
Nice ride, and look at the trees!🤩
Back in the days we used to always kickstart our motorcycles OUTSIDE of the garage... Don't ask me why.
